What a garage or basement cleanout includes
Everything that's going. Gone.
A garage or basement fills up slowly and then all at once: a box from the last move, a broken appliance, furniture that was going to be fixed. Clearing it yourself usually means hours of heavy lifting and several trips to the curb, spread across weeks of bulk pickup days.
We do it in one visit. Show us what’s staying, and we carry out the rest, load the truck and sweep the floor. It’s a good first step before a move, a sale or a renovation, and it often makes the rest of the house easier.
Have household chemicals or old paint? Those go to Westchester County’s Household Material Recovery Facility in Valhalla, by appointment. Electronics have their own rules in some towns; see the table below. Clearing the whole house? See estate clean-outs.
Boxes & clutter
Old boxes, bins, holiday decorations, toys and everything stacked in the corners.
Old furniture & appliances
The spare couch, the basement fridge, the treadmill and the broken dryer.
Tools & equipment
Workbenches, shelving, bikes and old yard equipment.
Sorted as we go
Point out what's staying. We work around it and take the rest.
Swept when we're done
When the last box is out, we sweep the floor.
Hazardous materials
Paint, household chemicals and propane tanks need special handling. Tell us what's there when you book.

Garage & basement cleanout rules around Westchester
What the curb won't take.
Garages and basements are full of things towns handle separately: electronics, household chemicals, construction debris and metal. Here's what applies where.
| Town | What the town does | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Westchester County | Household chemicals, electronics, rechargeable batteries and fluorescent bulbs go to the county's Household Material Recovery Facility in Valhalla, by appointment, Tuesday to Saturday. | Official page |
| Scarsdale | Electronics aren't bulky trash; they go to the e-waste container at the Sanitation Yard, 110 Secor Road. Construction and demolition debris isn't collected. | Official page |
| Tuckahoe | Construction debris isn't collected at the curb: lumber, sheetrock, tiles, cabinets, countertops, windows and more. | Official page |
| Yonkers | Construction material, tires and car batteries aren't collected curbside, and metal items need an appointment. | Official page |
| Mount Vernon | Electronics, appliances, construction debris and tires are excluded from free bulk pickup, which is capped at 200 pounds a week. | Official page |
| New Rochelle | TVs and computers are collected by appointment only, and tires, car batteries and construction material aren't picked up at the curb. | Official page |
Checked October 2026. Town rules change, so confirm with your town before you set anything out. Each town links to our local page with more detail.
When calling a crew makes more sense
- It's more than a few items, or more than your town's weekly limit.
- Appliances, electronics or renovation leftovers are mixed in.
- You want the whole space cleared in one visit, not over several pickup days.

Garage & basement cleanouts FAQs
Cleanouts, answered.
How long does a garage cleanout take?
Most garages and basements are cleared in a few hours, depending on how full they are and how far we carry. A one-car garage is usually about half a truck. Send photos when you call and we'll give you a better sense of time and price.
Do I need to sort everything before you come?
No. Just point out what's staying and we'll work around it. If you're unsure about something, set it aside and decide while we work. We'll take everything else, load it and sweep the floor.
What can't you take from my garage?
Hazardous materials like household chemicals, paint, pesticides and propane tanks need special handling. Westchester County's Household Material Recovery Facility in Valhalla takes household chemicals by appointment. Tell us what's in the garage when you call and we'll let you know what we can take.
Can you take old electronics from the basement?
Yes, along with the rest of the cleanout. If you'd rather handle them through your town, Scarsdale has an e-waste container at its Sanitation Yard on Secor Road, and New Rochelle collects TVs and computers by appointment.
Can you clear a basement before a renovation?
Yes. Clearing the basement first gives your contractor a clean space to work in. We take the furniture, boxes and old appliances, and can come back for renovation debris afterward, which most towns won't take at the curb.
