What our piano moving includes
Pianos & heavy items.
Pianos are heavy, top-heavy and easy to damage, and the route out of a Westchester home is rarely simple. A stoop on one of Yonkers’ seven hills, the long outdoor steps of a Hastings-on-Hudson hillside, or the narrow landings of an older Bronxville house all change how a piano has to move.
We look at the route before anything moves, protect floors and doorways, and send enough people to carry it safely. Tell us the type of piano, the floors at each end and any stairs, and we’ll plan the move.
When an old piano isn’t worth moving, we can haul it away instead. Many towns won’t take one at the curb; see the table below. Moving the rest of the house? See local movers.
Upright pianos
Uprights and spinets moved between rooms, floors or homes.
Grand pianos
Ask about grands and baby grands when you book.
Old piano removal
Unwanted pianos carried out and hauled away.
Other heavy items
Safes, pool tables and other heavy pieces. Tell us what it is.
Stairs & tight turns
We plan the route first, including stoops, staircases and hillside paths.

Getting rid of an old piano in Westchester
The curb usually isn't an option.
An unwanted piano is too heavy and too big for most town bulk programs. Here's what we found in the towns we serve.
| Town | What the town does | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Hastings-on-Hudson | The village's DPW flyer lists pianos among the items that aren't picked up. | DPW flyer |
| Bronxville | The village can refuse items too large for its collection trucks, and suggests a private hauler for larger amounts. | Local report (2026) |
| Mount Vernon | Free bulk pickup is limited to 200 pounds per household per week, less than most pianos weigh. | Official page |
Checked October 2026. Town rules change, so confirm with your town before you set anything out. Each town links to our local page with more detail.
When calling a crew makes more sense
- The piano is upstairs, in a basement or up a set of outdoor steps.
- Your town won't take it at the curb.
- You're moving and the piano is the one thing you can't carry yourself.

Piano movers FAQs
Pianos, answered.
Do you move grand pianos?
Tell us the size and type when you call. Uprights, spinets and grands all move differently, and we'll let you know what we can do and how we'd handle it before you book.
Can you remove an old piano I don't want?
Yes. We carry unwanted pianos out and haul them away. Town bulk programs rarely help: Hastings-on-Hudson's DPW lists pianos among items it doesn't pick up, and Mount Vernon's free pickup is capped at 200 pounds a week.
How do you get a piano up or down stairs?
Carefully, and with enough people. We check the route first, protect floors, banisters and doorways, and plan each turn before the piano moves. Tell us about every set of stairs, inside and out, when you book.
Should I tune my piano after a move?
Usually, yes. Moving, along with changes in temperature and humidity, can put a piano out of tune. Many owners wait a couple of weeks after a move, until the piano has adjusted to the new room, before calling a tuner.
Can you move other heavy items?
Yes, tell us what it is. Safes, pool tables, heavy armoires and similar pieces need the same planning as a piano: the route, the stairs and enough people to carry it safely.
