Junk removal services in Yonkers
Seven hills. A lot of stairs.
Yonkers is the third-largest city in New York State, with about 211,600 residents at the 2020 census, and it stretches from the Hudson River east to the Bronx River. That range shows up in the work: prewar walk-ups and apartments over storefronts in southwest Yonkers, Victorian-era houses in the northwest, mid-rise buildings along Central Avenue, and smaller homes set close together in the northeast. Each comes with its own stairs, basements and tight hallways.
The city calls itself the City of Seven Hills, and you feel it on moving day. Streets climb from near sea level at the river to more than 400 feet, so a couch that has to come down a stoop on Park Hill or Nodine Hill is a different job from a curbside pickup in Dunwoodie. We carry it out from wherever it sits, load the truck and leave the room swept.
That might be a sofa and a mattress from a third-floor walk-up, a basement full of boxes in Colonial Heights, an apartment emptied at the end of a lease, or a whole house cleared before a sale. If you’re moving too, see how it works in Yonkers below, or check how our truck-load pricing works.

Moving in and out of Yonkers
From the Hudson to the Bronx River.
Moving within Yonkers often means an elevator building on one end and a hillside driveway on the other. Before we book, we ask about floors, elevators, stairs and how close the truck can park, so the crew and the quote fit the job.
If you live in a building with more than six units, the City of Yonkers leaves bulk disposal to your landlord or management company. Ask building management about move-out rules, elevator time and where large items can go before moving day. If the building needs paperwork from your movers, such as a certificate of insurance, ask for the exact wording early.
Book the elevator
Many Yonkers apartment buildings ask you to reserve the elevator for a move. Lock in that time with management before you lock in a moving date.
Mind the hills
On steep streets, tell us where the truck can safely stop. A long carry or extra flights of stairs changes how many people we send.
Label keep vs. go
Mark what's moving and what's going so nothing ends up in the wrong place, and add the leftovers to your junk removal pickup.
How Yonkers bulk pickup compares to hiring a crew
Free curbside pickup, with conditions.
The City of Yonkers picks up some bulk items for free, but there are limits on what, when and from which buildings. Here is the short version from the city's Department of Public Works.
What the City of Yonkers handles
- Non-metal bulk items such as mattresses, box springs, couches, tables, chairs and rugs (cut and tied in 3-foot lengths) are collected weekly from homes and buildings with six units or fewer.
- You can set out one item, on your second scheduled collection day of the week.
- Metal items like washers, dryers, refrigerators and bed frames need an appointment through the Mayor's Help Line, or you can drop them at the city Recycling Center at 735 Saw Mill River Road.
- Buildings with more than six units handle bulk disposal through the landlord or management company.
- Construction material, tires and car batteries aren't collected at the curb.

When calling a crew makes more sense
- You have more than one item, or a whole room, basement or apartment.
- Your building has more than six units and management won't take it.
- The item is upstairs and you can't get it to the curb.
- You need it gone on a set day, not your next collection day.

Yonkers junk removal & moving FAQs
Yonkers questions, answered.
Can I just use Yonkers bulk pickup instead of hiring a crew?
Often, yes, for a single item. The City of Yonkers collects one non-metal bulk item per week from homes and buildings with six units or fewer, on your second collection day, and metal items need an appointment. If you have several pieces, live in a larger building, or can't get things to the curb, a crew is usually faster.
Do you work in every Yonkers neighborhood?
Yonkers is our home base. We work in neighborhoods across the city, from Getty Square, Ludlow and Nodine Hill in the southwest to Crestwood, Colonial Heights and Lawrence Park West in the northeast. Tell us your street when you call and we'll confirm timing.
Can you take furniture out of a walk-up apartment?
Yes. We carry furniture, mattresses and boxes down from upper floors of walk-up buildings, so you don't have to drag anything to the curb. Tell us the floor, whether there's an elevator, and how tight the stairwell is so we can send the right number of people.
What about my old refrigerator or air conditioner in Yonkers?
Refrigerators, washers, dryers and other metal items aren't part of Yonkers' weekly bulk pickup. The city requires an appointment, or you can take them to the Recycling Center on Saw Mill River Road yourself. If you'd rather skip both, we can carry the appliance out and haul it away.
How is junk removal priced in Yonkers?
By volume: how much of the truck your items fill, from a minimum load up to a full truck. Stairs, long carries and heavy items can change the price, so a short description or a few photos helps. You'll have the quote before any work starts.
Can you help me move out of a building with more than six units?
Yes. In larger Yonkers buildings the city leaves bulk disposal to management, so leftover furniture can become your problem on move-out day. We can move what you're keeping and haul away what you're not. Check your building's rules for elevator reservations and move hours first.
